Parathion methyl

The parathion methyl is a active substance of Produit plant health (or Produit phytopharmacological, or Pesticide), which presents an effect Insecticide, and which belongs to the chemical family of the Organophosphoré S.

Regulation

In the field of the regulation of the phytopharmacological produced :

  • for the European Union: this active substance is prohibited following the examination relating to the inscription with appendix I of the Directive 91/414/CEE, pursuant to the Community decision 2003/166/CE of March 10th, 2003.
  • for the France: this active substance is not authorized in the composition of preparations profiting from a marketing authorization. The opinion published with the Official journal of March 28th, 2003 withdraws the marketing authorizations of the phytopharmacological produced containing parathion methyl, for all the agricultural and nonagricultural uses, with a time of flow of stocks until April 30th, 2003 for the distribution, and at December 31st, 2003 for the use.

Physicochemical characteristics

The physicochemical characteristics whose order of magnitude is indicated hereafter, influence the risks of transfer of this active substance towards water, and risks it pollution the waters:

  • Hydrolysis with pH 7: very stable,
  • Solubility: 55 mg/l,
  • Coefficient of division carbon organics-water: 240 cm ³ /g. This parameter, noted Koc, represents the potential of retention of this active substance on the Organic matter of the ground. The mobility of the active matter is reduced by its absorption on the particles of the ground.
  • Lasted of half-life: 19 days. This parameter, noted DT50, represents the potential of degradation this active substance, and its speed of degradation in the ground.
  • Coefficient of division octanol-water: 3. This parameter, noted Log Kow or Log P, measurement the Hydrophily (low values) or the Lipophilia (strong values) of the active substance.

Ecotoxicology

In the field of the ecotoxicology, the lethal concentrations 50 (CL50) whose order of magnitude is indicated hereafter, is observed:

Toxicity for the man

Until 2007, concerning the Toxicity for the Man, the Dose acceptable day laborer (DJA) was about: 0,003 mg/kg/j.

Synergies between parathion methyl and benzopyrene :
Une study to lead by Irena Hreljac Département for the genetic toxicology and the biology of cancer to the national of biology ''] of Ljubljana) showed that Parathion methyl, in the presence of Benzopyrène had effects Mutagène S (on the bacterial cells) and increased the character Génotoxique S of benzopyrene on human DNA. This could reinforce the assumption of a causal bond between the exposure to organophosphorés and certain cancers.

Another study highlighted a synergy with paraoxon-methyl.
