General presentation
The Erdre , of the Celt erdam (small river), who takes his source with Pouëze (pond of Pale), with a score of kilometers in the North-West of Angers in the Maine-et-Loire, is a French Rivière, affluent of the the Loire, in which it is thrown to Nantes (Loire-Atlantique, 44).
With many manors, parks and Castle X sumptuous which borders its banks, Erdre bears well the name of “more beautiful river of France”, which François I gave him {{er}}. It allows the superb ones thus stroll along the banks arranged by the communes in order to offer the access to all of them.
It is possible also to practice many water sports there, like the board with veil on one of its two lakes (the plain of Poupinière of 2 km ² or the plain of Mazerolles of 3 km ²), or the walks in boat which can carry out you until Redon (by the Canal from Nantes to Brest).
For the great period of filling of the arms of the the Loire to Nantes, at the beginning of the twentieth century, Erdre it also underwent modifications. Thus, its last 500 meters were filled and became one of the main axes of Nantes today, the Cours of the 50-Hostages. Erdre thus passes today by a tunnel under the course Saint-Pierre and the Saint-Andrew course and is thrown in the Loire on the level of the Saint-Felix Channel.
