Paramaribo

Paramaribo (called Par' bo ) is the Capitale Suriname, localized in the District of Paramaribo and counts a population of approximately 250  000 people. The city is located on the Rivière Surinam at roughly 15 km inside the grounds.

History

The city, established by the Dutch, was conquered by the Britanniques in 1630 and became in 1650 capital new English colony, follows then different changes from authority between Dutchman and British before the first completely put the hand above until in 1967 then remained under the Dutch authority of 1815 until its independence in 1975. The majority of the inhabitants are Indian Asian, natives, African, indonésiens (Java) and descendants of Dutch.

In January 1821, a violent one fire devastated the city, destroying 400 houses and other buildings. A second fire took place in 1832 destroying 46 houses.

Economy

The principal economic activity turns around the export of Or, Bauxite, of sugar canes, Sucre; of Rice, Cocoa, Coffee, Rum and tropical Wood.

Paramaribo is known for its ethnic diversity.

Many sportsmen resulting from this town of an old Dutch colony defended later the colors of the Netherlands, in particular in Football with Clarence Seedorf, Edgar Davids, Aron Winter, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink or Henk Fräser.
