Paradoxical Syrrhapte
The paradoxical syrrhapte ( Syrrhaptes paradoxus ), or syrrhapte of Pallas , is a Oiseau of intermediate size belonging to the family of the ganga S.
This species niche with the average latitudes of Central Asia, in the dry Steppe S and mediums similar. Its nest is a depression scraped on the surface of the ground, in which are laid 2 or 3 greenish eggs camouflaged by spots. It is a migrating partial, particularly the populations of the septentrional parts of her surface of distribution to the Kazakhstan and in Mongolia, but the importance of displacement towards the South depends on the quantity of the snowfalls.
Since its normal surface of nesting and wintering, paradoxical Syrrhapte makes occasional irruptions which bring it through Europe until in Great Britain, where it nested, and in Ireland. The reasons of these remarkable displacements are not entirely known, but these invasions became less frequent, probably because of the reduction of the Western part of its surface of distribution in Siberia, which had with the transformation of the steppe by agriculture.
Paradoxical Syrrhapte has a length from 30 to 41 cm. It has a fawn-coloured plumage, barred above, a black ventral spot and pale lower part of the wings. The male has a gray head and a chest, the orange face and a gray pectoral band. This band is lacking with the female; this one has the more barred top and is duller.
The black belly and the pale lower part of the wings distinguish this species from his/her cousin, the Syrrhapte of Tibet.
This bird has a small head, resembling that of a Pigeon, but a robust and compact body. Its wings and its tail are long and pointed, and it has a fast and direct flight. The groups fly away towards the points of water at dawn and the twilight. The legs and the feet are emplumés.
