Pará

The Pará is a State northern of the country, centered around the estuary of the the Amazon. With a surface of: 1247689 km ², it act of the State of the country in the face.

It is limited by the Surinam, the Guyana and the State of Amapá in north, the Atlantic Ocean in the North-East, the State of the Maranhão in the east, the Tocantins in south-east, the Mato Grosso in the south, the Amazonas in the west and the Roraima in the North-East.

Its capital is Belem. The other main cities of the State are Santarém, Ananindeua, Marabá, Altamira, Castanhal and Abaetetuba.

The relief is mainly flat, integral part of the basin of the the Amazon. The principal rivers are, in addition to the Amazon, the Rio Tapajós, the Rio Tocantins, the Rio Jari and the Rio Pará, from which it draws its name.
