History

1798 : creation of the department of the Léman with part of the Mont Blanc (districts of Carouge, Cluses and Thonon, country of Gex (detached of the Ain) and Geneva
1800: creation of the districts: Bonneville, Geneva, Thonon
1814: removal of the department of Léman, Geneva is returned to the Suisse, the country of Gex goes back to Ain, the remainder of the department goes back to Mont Blanc
1860: creation of the department of Haute-Savoie: Annecy, Bonneville, Saint-Julien and Thonon
1926: removal of the district of Saint-Julien
1933: restoration of the district of Saint-Julien
