Paolo Savoldelli

Paolo Savoldelli (born the May 7th 1973 with Clusone, in the Province of Bergamo, Lombardy -) is a professional racing cyclist Italy N, which began its career in 1996, in the Roslotto team.

Paolo Savoldelli is called It Falco ( the Faucon in Italian) in reference at the speed to which it descends the collars in mountain, it is regarded by much as the best chute cyclist of the world. It is a very complete runner, which enabled him to shine in many races with stages.

Since 2007 it runs in the Swiss team Astana, sharing the leadership with Alexandre Vinokourov and Andreas Klöden.

Biography

Passed professional in 1996 in the modest team Roslotto, Savoldelli is announced like a promising runner by gaining the Turn of the Trentin in 1998, then passed to Saeco. It also gains the race the following year, before appearing with the general public at the time of the Giro 1999, finishing second of the final classification and gaining a stage of mountain. After a victory with the Turn of Romandie 2000, one predicts to him, at 27 years, a future blazing in the Large Turns. It is unfortunately for him the beginning of misfortunes: just after this success, it is wounded with the knee and must give up Giro. It will find the plenitude of its means only in spring 2002. It then takes the departure of Giro in the skin of a Outsider and carries it with the general surprise after an animated race. Its success will be tarnished by the businesses of doping which agitate the test: must indeed withdraw Gilberto Simoni and Stefano Garzelli, the two principal favorites of the race, for a positive control, another Italian, Dario Frigo, becomes the favorite of the test then but is withdrawn for “physical problems”. The pink shirt Cadel Evans is victim of a terrible failure in the Dolomites and leaves its tunic to Paolo Savoldelli which is essential for the first time on Milan, under the colors of the modest formation Index - Alexia Aluminio , evolving/moving in the second division.

2003 with 2005, the history changes. Are added to its prize list a string of wounds and results very disappointing, which relegate it, according to the Italian press, with the shooting star row. Its two seasons with the TEAM Telekom remain white and empty of any success. But in 2005, three years after its victory, Savoldelli reappears on this same Giro, having passed in the team of Lance Armstrong, the Discovery Channel. Once again simple outsider at the beginning with Reggio of Calabria, Savoldelli shows with the height favorites in mountain, before benefitting from the terrible failure of Ivan Basso in the Stelvio, which undoubtedly helped its final victory. Savoldelli gains all the same Giro with the manner, and erases its two black years.

In 2006, Savoldelli as all the others is crushed in the Tour of Italy by Ivan Basso which flies over the test. It finishes fifth with the final one.

In 2007, passed to Astana, the Italian does not show with the height hopes placed in him in its favorite race. It cracks in the high mountain, to finish 12th final classification, having all the same gained the last Against-the-watch with Vérone.
