Paolo Lucio Anafesto

Paolo Lucio Anafesto or Anafestus Paulucius was the first Doge de Venise, according to the tradition.

It was noble of Heraclea, then main city of the area. He was elected in 697 as directing lagoon which surrounded Venice, at the same time to put an end to the ceaseless conflicts which divided the chiefs of the various districts and to coordinate common defense against the Lombards and the Slaves which threatened the region.
