Pannalal Ghosh
Pannalal Ghosh (July 31st, 1911 with Barisal, East Bengal (Bangladesh - April 20th, 1960 with New Delhi) was a flutist famous Indien to have transformed the simple flute Murali into an instrument in concert, the BansurĂ®.
Resulting from a family of musician, it learned initially the Sitar with his/her father. Then at nine years he discovers the flute and at eleven years a Sadhu announces to him that he will dedicate his life to the music and the flute. In this time there, Pannalal was a champion of boxing and movement took part in the freedom in fight for independence.
He became musician for the cinema with Calcutta where he needed a larger flute and of a new tact to be able to reach the very spaced holes. He became thus famous and will recontra the largest musicians of his time.
In 1937 it meets its first guru : Kushi Mohammed Khan, a player of harmonium. Then it in of turned to Europe in 1938, with a troop of dance. With died of its Master, it finds then Girija Shankar Chakravarti and in 1947 he becomes finally the pupil of Ustad Allauddin Khan.
He became then the guide of Ustad Fayaz Khan and Pandit Omkarnath Thakur, singers famous.
Its compositions mix various styles such Dhrupad, tantrakari, Thumri and folk music, played in difficult rates/rhythms such Jhumra and Tilwara.
He also invented the low bansuri and introduced the Tampuri with six cords and the Surpeti or Shruti box into the Musique hindoustanie.
At the end of its life, it became devout of Ramakrishna and Vivekananda, mixing meditation, prayer and music, and forsaking the Musique filmi.
