Jean-Marie Bonnassieux Sculptor French born in Panissières in 1810, deceased with Paris in 1892. Most known as of its Statue S and the colossal virgin Notre Dame de France, set up with the the Puy-en-Velay on the rock of Crow.

Its industry

Panissières, city industrial of the beginning of the century, was specialized in the manufacture of fabrics and Gaze to be bolted. The presence of the industry of the Textile in the commune is of long time, as, it is normal as she sees herself decreeing the title of Capitale of the Cravate.

The Monorail, human adventure

Between 1870 and 1880, Panissières which counted 5000 inhabitants claimed a connection with Feurs. A project of Charles Lartigue was adopted: the Monorail . This means of Transport to single Rail was born initially between Listowel and Ballybunion in Ireland. It could contain a hundred passengers, placed in eight cars and spent 35 minutes to traverse 16 kilometers in a terrible noise. This line was exploited during 35 years and was closed on October 14th 1924.

In Panissières, the project taken very an other " tournure" ! The line of the Monorail of Panissières with Feurs, built in a way lighter than his/her cousin of Ireland did not resist the sinuous reliefs of the area. The local legend wants that the inaugural voyage shows the collapse of the way and the return to foot of the personalities!!! This is a legend because, not having never had the authorization of startup, there can have been inauguration. There were only acceptance tests between the years 1893 and 1899. All the material fur sold and dismounted in 1902.
