Panel of marking out of a cycle installation in France
The panels of marking out of a cycle installation have the role to give to the users cyclists the useful informations enabling to locate them the route on which they are and the various directions which are offered to them to continue their advance.
History
Multiple and varied marking out was set up on various French cycle installations. It is not finally that in 2002 qu' a standard with the decree of the bearing July 31st, 2002 modification appears on the decree of November 24th, 1967 relating to the indication of the roads and the highways. This decree aims at a standardization of the whole of the panels, a guidance with average outdistances thanks to the indications of folding back, advance sign, and confirmation.
The Highway code was then modified by a Decree n°200-4998 of September 16th, 2004, published in the Official journal of the 23-09-04, to introduce the Green lanes there: The Green lanes are defined like roads “exclusively reserved for the traffic not motorized, pedestrians and riders”
The panels defined in the decree of 2002 must thus be used, and only them, on the véloroutes and the green lanes.
Types of panels
Panel of cycle identification of route
Two panels were defined, codified Dv10- Panneau Dv11. Panel complementary to identification of a cycle route.
- Dv12 Panel. Panel complementary to denomination of a cycle route.
The Dv11 panel comprises symbol SC2. The Dv12 panel comprises symbol SC2 and the name of the borrowed cycle route.
Panels of position
They indicate the direction to be followed and are placed at the intersection in such a way that the possible operation is carried out in front of the panel. Three panels were defined, codified Dv20- Panneau Dv21a. Panel of position comprising an indication of destination and an indication of distance.
- Dv21b Panel. Panel of position comprising an indication of destination.
- Dv21c Panel. Directional panel of position without indication of destination, nor of distance.
The panels of the Dv20 type comprise a drawn arrowhead. The drawn arrowhead is of white color on green bottom
Panels of advance sign
They announce the directions served with the next crossroads. Seven panels were defined, codified Dv40- Panneau Dv42a. Panel of diagrammatic advance sign of the complex crossroads.
- Dv42b Panel. Panel of diagrammatic advance sign of the crossroads with gyratory direction.
- Dv43a Panel. Panel of current advance sign of the crossroads comprising an indication of destination and an indication of distance.
- Dv43b Panel. Panel of current advance sign of the crossroads comprising an indication of destination.
- Dv43c Panel. Panel of current advance sign of the crossroads not comprising neither an indication of destination, nor an indication of distance.
- Dv43d Panel. Panel of current advance sign of the crossroads not comprising neither an indication of destination, nor an indication of distance.
- Dv44 Panel. Insert of advance sign of a cycle route.
The panels of the Dv42 type can be surmounted by a Dv12 panel.
The Dv42a panel represents the crossroads in a simplified way. The Dv42b panel comprises a simplified diagram of the crossroads with gyratory direction symbolized by a ring from which leave branches as many as there are roads leaving the crossroads. Each branch of the panels of the Dv42 type is finished by an arrow, supplemented by the served mentions.
The panels of the Dv42 type comprise, in addition to the diagram of the crossroads, the distance from the crossroads indicated in bottom of the panel.
The panels of the Dv43 type comprise symbol SC2 and an arrow directed towards the direction concerned.
The Dv44 insert comprises symbol SC2 as well as the indication of destination. It is intended to supplement existing D42 panels.
Panel of confirmation
It confirms the mentions served by the cycle route on which it is established.-
Dv61 Panel. Panel of current confirmation.
Form, color, listel, inscriptions, symbol and ideograms
The panels of the type FD are of form rectangular. They are at white zone. They comprise a green listel, except for the panels Dv11 and Dv44. The inscriptions are of green color, in right characters capital letters (L1) or italics (L4).Symbol SC2 is normally directed towards the left. It is directed towards the line when the panel indicates a direction towards the line.
The panels of the type FD can be supplemented by ideograms.
Establishment
The reduced field of view of the cyclist, directed in general with middle height from its position towards the bicycle militates in favor of a position adapted of the panels on the supports. On exclusive right of way and when the absence of any mask is guaranteed, an establishment with 1 meter of the ground seems optimal. An establishment up to 2,30 m is however acceptable if problems of vandalism are feared.
In general downtown it is necessary to give off the gauge for the pedestrians, to prevent that possible vehicles in infringement do not come to strike the panels or quite simply to avoid the risks of visual masks. A height of 2,30meters seems preferable.
