Panazol

Panazol , Panasòu in Occitan, is a common French of the agglomeration of Limoges, in the department of the High-Vienna (87) and the area the Limousin.
Ses inhabitants is Panazolais.

Panazol is the 3rd city of the department by the population after Limoges and Saint-Junien. The origin of the name is obscure; it is probably side (bread) and ground (sun).

Localization

Panazol is located on the NR 141 (become in 2006 RD 941), in the east of Limoges, on the road of Clermont-Ferrand via Saint-Léonard-with-Noblat, Bourganeuf and Aubusson.

Geography

The commune of Panazol is established between two valleys:
  • That of the Vienna in the north, which separates it from part of the communes of Limoges and Palate-on-Vienna.
  • That of the Auzette, in the south, which separates it from the commune of Feytiat.
These two valleys were recently arranged for the walk, with the installation of a circuit connecting them, around Panazol.

The commune is located on a projection raised compared to Limoges, remarkable since the district of Saint-Lazare in Limoges, where by the coasts of RN141 close to Fargeas .

History

The Mairie is installed since 1969 in the castle of Beausserie, surrounded by a large raised park.

The commune of Panazol knows since half of the 20th century a demographic strong growth, which is explained by a progression of the economic dynamism, the proximity of the regional capital and campaign, the construction of new residences and new equipment, and perhaps also the development of the historical attractions, with the recent reorganization of the center-borough.

Thus, in forty years, the communal population has more than triplet, and approaches from now on that of Saint-Junien (nearly 11.000 inhabitants). It could be thus that with the figures of the census of 2007, revealed in 2008, Panazol posts nearly 11.000 inhabitants.

Personalities related to the commune

  • Panazol is the title of a Comédie of Edmond Gondinet, born with Laurière (1828 - 1888), and which passed most of its childhood to Limoges, his/her father being there director of the Administration of the Fields.

Events

In 2004, great works of restructuring of the center-borough were committed. A passage made safe for the schools was created, the avenue Jean Jaurès, with installation of chechmates with flowers, the crossroads of the avenue Jean Jaurès and the avenue Pierre Guillot, with creation of a new bus stop made safe for the school were refitted. The carparks of the Presbytery were rehabilitated, the place of the Republic were restructured and development in a different way (new fountain, lighting, use of the stone, repair of the war memorial,…).

Panazol is twinned since 1992 with Picanya and is sponsored with the Rumanian city of Tirgu Neamt.

In spite of its relative importance, the commune does not have a college; the pupils must go to the College Leon Blum Limoges. The colleges of fastening are the Lycée Gay-Lussac and the college Raoul Dautry in Limoges.
