Panafrican colors

The Panafrican colors are three colors; red, yellow and green: used per much country of Africa in their flags, in particular in West Africa. These colors come from the flag of the Ethiopia, one of the only nations of Africa to have preserved its sovereignty during the dismemberment of Africa at the 19th century. Ghana is the first country to raise these colors at the time of its accession to independence in 1957

The colors red, black and green were declared colors official of the race African by the UNIA (Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League) in 1920. They thus compete with the red, yellow and green like colors of the Panafricanisme. They however are much used, except by the Afro-américain S.

The UNIA and the movements Afro-Americans

The colors red, black and green were declared colors official of the race African by the UNIA (Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League), a movement Afro-américain in 1920, at the convention of the August 13rd to the Madison Square Garden. The flag corresponding is thus named flag side-African, flag Afro-American, flag of release of the blacks, or flag of the UNIA. The three colors represent:
  • red: the blood which links all the people having African ancestors and that of the fight for the release;
  • black: black people as a nation, although without corresponding State;
  • green: the abundance of the nature of Africa.
The flag would have been created in answer to a racist song, written in 1900 which is entitled Every race has flag drank the “Coon” {http://sheetmusic.library.sc.edu/SearchMusicDetailsAll.asp?MID=1228&page=1]
