Pamulaparthi Venkata Narasimha Rao
Pamulaparthi Venkata Narasimha Rao - generally named statement Narasimha Rao - (June 28th 1921 - December 23rd 2004) Prime Minister for the Indian Republic was the ninth. He was often called Chânakya by the media. Rao studies in the universities of Osmania, Mumbai and Nagpur, obtaining its diploma of right.
After a beginning of political career like combatant for independence, Rao briefly occupies several stations within ministries for the government of the state of the Andhra Pradesh, then at the national level while being useful in several ministries, in particular with the Foreign affairs, in the governments of Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.
After the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi and the general elections of 1991, Rao is invited to direct a government of minority. It is then the first nobody not belonging to the dynasty of Nehru-Gandhi to be been useful like Prime Minister lasting five consecutive years.
The first years of the Rao government are rather difficult because of an importance deprives of reserves in foreign currencies and of a stagnant Indian economy. It benefits from this difficult period to implement several economic reforms necessary for a long time, via its Minister for Finance Dr. Manmohan Singh and its secretary with finances Montek Singh Ahluwalia. The Indian economy starts to open out a few days after the abandonment of old protectionist measurements, increasing GDP of an average of 5,5%, a growth rate which will be maintained all along the decade which follows, a first for the Indian economy. The reforming pressure of Rao is slackened however with semi-1993.
After its mandate, Rao is shown to be implied in several corruption affairs, it will be however discharged in each one of them.
Rao was polyglote, having a command of 17 languages. It translated Télougou into Hindi, “Veyi Padagalu”, the novel of Viswanatha Satyanarayana, holder of the Jnanpith Award , under the title of “Sahasr Phan”. After its retirement of the Indian policy, Rao publishes a novel called The Insider . The discussed book reports the rise of man in the political world Indian and certain recognized there events pointing out those of the life of Rao, although he denied all resemblances.
Rao died in December 2004 at the 83 years age following an heart attack.
