Palo LED Sticks
Palo del Colle is a common of approximately: 22000 inhabitants located in the Province of Bari, in the Pouilles, the south of the Italy.
Etymology
The origin of the name of Palo del Colle would come from its geographical location. Built on a hill considered as crowned, because, according to the legend, Hercules would have gained a battle there, the city would draw its name from the Greek Palaion , which means “ victorious combat ”. The inhabitants were thus called the “ Palionnenses ”, which gave in Latin “ Palium ”, transformed in Italian modern in “ Palo ”.
Geography
Palo del Colle is inside the grounds, with about fifteen kilometers of Bari, the provincial capital. It was built on a hill - it is from there that it draws its name, that one can translate literally by “ Polle on the hill ” - located at an altitude of 177 meters above the sea level. This hill dominates a vast flat territory, which extends to the coast. This geographical position made an ideal site of it on the military level, because easy to defend.
History
The origins of Palo del Colle are very old and probably go up with the VI {{E}} - fifth century BC. One can suppose, without much risk of error, that there was on this site a civil structure organized at the time of the Grande Greece, as testify to them the currencies and Greek vases of the antique Taras (auj. Tarente - the capital of the colony rested by colonists of Sparte - who were discovered there. It is probably about the antique quoted of Palio , whose inhabitants are evoked in a passage of Pline Old the, first unquestionable document attesting of the seniority of the city. Pline affirms that the inhabitants of Palio are of Greek origin.Palo del Colle became the center of a Greek colony because of its ideal strategic situation, dominating a vast plain. This position also explains, later, the careful attitude of the Romains with regard to the city. If one always believes Pline of it, Palo del Colle was regarded as a municipality by the Romans, i.e. its inhabitants were considered commes Roman citizens, but those let it manage itself, because it would have been too difficult to conquer!
