Palmipède
A palmipède is a Oiseau with the webbed feet, the most generally this term indicates the swan S, Oie S and Canard S. This term is attested in Nature oyseaux of Pierre Bellon, published in 1555.
From the systematic point of view, the Palmipèdes (or Palmipedes ) are one of the six groups of birds defined by Cuvier according to the following criteria:
- Neck longer than the legs;
- foot S webbed, i.e. that a membrane joined the fingers between them (not always over all their length);
- plumage coats with a secretion which waterproofs it.
This group gathers species phylogenetically distant, the shared characters correspondent with convergences related to the watery lifestyle.
