Palmar of mow Islas
El Palmar of mow Islas and the Salinas de San Jose are a vast area where are forests of palm trees on saline and nonsaline grounds (Copernicia alba), practically intact, and a network of small lagoons and channels providing of water to a considerable number of animal species.
The surface of this site is of: 856754 hectares is: 8567.5 km ². It is located around the southern 19°15' and western 61°00'.
The site constitutes only the wetlands S within vast extended from dry forests. Of this fact they bring a vital support to many species, contributing to the good progress of their biological cycle. For example, the reproduction of several species of reptiles and Amphibians is made possible thanks to the presence of this zone. These wetlands are also very important for the large mammals, like the Pécari and the Tapir, which are assembled on their banks at the dry season. The area is populated and used almost exclusively by the Ayoréodes Indians who carry out a wandering life exploiting the resources of the places by hunting, fishing and an only food agriculture.
Part of the site is in the National park Kaa Iya which is a natural zone of management integrated of the Gran Chaco.
