Palm Islands

Palm Islands is a creation project ex nihilo of three artificial islands in the Persian Gulf on the coasts of the emirate of Dubai, with the United Arab Emirates. Each island (which is not strictly speaking) has a form pointing out that of the palm tree. Hotel, balneal and tourist complexes are envisaged on each site. Houses are also available for fortunate customers.

Construction is more simple : Sable is dredged on the bottom of the Persian Gulf and redeposited at the adequate places in order to create the islands. The islands are thus entirely sands some, only some ripraps mainly on the outside of the dams (increasing ) are carried out in order to counter the Houle.

The plans of the three palm trees last being modified, sometimes after construction (Jumeirah) and sometimes with very many recoveries (Deira). Indeed the manufacturers, pressed, had not awaited the report/ratio of engineers of the Netherlands which had been requested for their experiment on the grounds gained on the sea. This report/ratio stated in particular that the Marée was not sufficient inside the increasing to ensure a renewal of water between the palms , being likely to transform the lagoons into dens with Moustique S invaded of Algue S. Of the master keys were then arranged at strategic places in the increasing in order to allow a total renewal of water every two weeks thanks to the natural action of the tides.

Three palm trees

Jumeirah

Jumeirah is smallest of the three palm trees . It is located at the level of the districts of Dubai called Jumeirah which count already the Hôtel Burj-Al-Arab and the hotel Jumeirah Beach. It is conceived mainly for the private and tourist habitat.

Its construction started in June 2001 and should be completed in December 2007, more than one year after the date of initial inauguration, the delay being with modifications of design, in particular the boring of two master keys in the growing .

The trunk

The trunk which is two kilometers long is connected to the continent by Gateway Bridge. It accommodates fast tracks and a Monorail and is crossed in its center in the length by a channel. East coast of the channel will be 2 500 apartments while the west coast will shelter 25 Hôtel S, of the Commerce S, Restaurant S, etc In the center of the trunk , with horse on the central channel, will rise a double turn meeting in the airs and sheltering a hôtel : international Trump Hotel and Tower. At the end of the trunk will be marinas (1 500 places on the whole) and the access to the palms .

Palms

In the 17 palms will be 1 350 private villas of luxury of three types (Signature Villas, Garden Homes and Canal Cove Town Homes) sheltering 8 000 inhabitants.

The crescent

The growing , long, eleven kilometers is connected at the end of the palm tree by an underwater tunnel. This crescent will accommodate de luxe hotels and luxury hotels as the Atlantis hotel which will count 1 500 rooms and will open in 2008.

Jebel Ali

Jebel Ali is a palm tree half larger than Jumeirah. Located at Jebel Ali, it will be more intended for the entertainment and attractions for children and adults. Cash 17 palms , it will accommodate marinas, Sea Village (amusement park to topic and watery), residences in the growing . The trunk as for him will be composed of residence and channel, transportation routes. Its characteristic lies in the fact that between the growing and the palm tree houses will be on piloti of which the provision will literally write in Arab a poem of the current emir of Dubai, the sheikh Mohammad Ben Rached Al-Maktoum.

Its construction, started in October 2002, should be completed fine 2007.

Deira

Deira is largest of the three palm trees with 41 palms , fourteen kilometers length, eight kilometers and half broad and 80 km ² of superficie ; it will be larger than the island of Manhattan and will cover a surface larger than Paris. Located at Deira, close to the downtown area of Dubai, it will be exclusively reserved for the habitat and will not comprise any hotel. In addition to 8 000 villas of luxury built in three styles (First Villas, Large Villas and Vista Town Homes), it will comprise marinas, trade, sports complexes, etc the palm tree will be surrounded by a dam of protection and will comprise at its base pluseurs artificial islands. Initially not envisaged in the project Palm Islands, its construction at summer decided in October 2004 and began the next month but it should be completed only in 2010 because of important problems of design.
