Pallars
Pallars is a coastal territory of the river Noguera Pallaresa, located between the the Pyrenees and the mountain of the Montsec, in the Province of Lérida. Its historical capital is Sort.
In the local division established in 1936, the territory of Pallars was subdivided between the areas of the Pallars Sobirà (the Scandinavian zone), with as capital Sort and of the Pallars Jussà (the Southerner), with like capital Tremp. In this division, the coastal territories of Noguera Ribagorzana of the Province of Lérida were added to the area of Pallars Jussà. The local division of 1988 secrete these territories of the Pallars Jussà, and granted to them the consideration of the area with the name of Alta Ribagorza ( Alta Ribagorça as a Catalan), with as chief place El Pont of Suert.
