Palio

The Palio is a contest between districts of a city or close territorial entities, in general disputed with horses or other animals. There also exists of Palio in the boats. The origin of this type of demonstration goes up at the time of the Italian free communes. Today the race of Palio became a tradition very anchored in many towns of Italy, especially the old medieval cities. The most famous palio in the world is the Palio of His, estival demonstration traditional which disputes twice in the year (the July 2nd , in the honor of the Madonna di Provenzano , and the August 16th , in the honor of the Assomption ); possibly, there can be third Palio, run on a quite precise date, to celebrate a particular event (such as for example extraordinary Palio of 1969, run to celebrate the first step of the man on the moon).
