Palilula (Belgrade)

Palilula , in Serb Cyrillic Палилула, is a municipality of Serbia located in the district of Belgrade. It is one of the 10 municipalities which compose the town of Belgrade itself. In 2002, it counted 155.092 inhabitants.

The district of Palilula goes back to first half of the 18th century, when the Habsbourgs occupied the North of Serbia between 1717 and 1719. The locality, built as a suburb outside Belgrade bore initially the name of Karlstadt and was famous for the products of its agriculture and its craft industry. Today, Palilula is a residential suburb and tradesman.

On the territory of the municipality are the beach of Bleated Stena and the thermal spas of Višnjička Banja and Ovčanska Banja.
