Palikur
The Palikur (or Palikour , Palikuyene ) are people alive Indigène in the North of the Brazilian State of Amapá and in the East of the Guyana (Macouria, Regina, Roura and Saint-Georges-with-the Oyapock), where they are one of the six ethnos groups Amerindian born from Guyana.
Ils lives mainly close to the rivers (Rio Urucaua in Brazil, low Oyapock and on the communes of Roura and Macouria in French Guiana where they can be exposed with the mercurielles contaminations related to the Orpaillage, in particular the Orpaillage in Guyana and perhaps with the Cyanure S if the industrial exploitation of the gold of the basement were to occur.
It is people which at the end of the years 1990 were famous little “ acculturé ”, but undergoing however an acculturation via the missions adventist pentecotists and .
It comprises approximately 1.145 members: 595 in Brazil in 1986 and 550 in French Guiana in 1990.
Language
Palikurs are same linguistic family as the Arawak.
Pressures?
The French administration in 2006, did not retain the charges of spoliation of the Palikurs Indians by the creation project of mine with open sky on their territory by the Cambior company, with the reason that a convention signed on August 18th, 2006 by Cambior with representatives duly elected of this community offers a guarantee equality, but a mission of inspection required that “ whatever to become to it project Cambior, it will be appropriate that answers are given to various legitimate requests for this community addressed to the State or the territorial collectivities ”.
