Paleologist

The Paleologist (in Greek: Παλαιολογος - Palaialogos , pl. Παλαιολογοι ) is a noble family of Byzance dating from the 12th century and originating in Macedonia, which reigned on the Byzantine Empire. They were the last reigning Byzantine sovereigns, since the Empire of Trébizonde survived eight years the fall of Constantinople - Trébizonde fell to the hands from the Turks in 1461. Their descendants reigned on the Rumanian principalities of Moldavie and Valachie; others emigrated in Italy, and a branch junior obtained by marriage the marquisat of Montferrat.
