Palate of the Culture and Science

Palate of the culture and science (PKiN) is the largest building of Poland, 6th larger of Europe and 4th larger of the European Union, after the Tour Commerzbank and the Messeturm (both with Frankfurt), the One Canada Square (with London), but before the Tour Montparnasse (with Paris). It consists of 30 stages, of 3.288 parts and measurement 231 meters.

In a context of cold war, Stalin made a point of offering this building to the Warsaw NS in 1951. This skyscraper completed in 1955 is in fact the counterpart existing in 7 specimens of the Université of State of Moscow (celebrates it " Lomonossov" university;). Whereas the Varsovians left the Second world war, in a difficult economic context, the construction of this Palate was very discussed.

With the fall of the Communism in 1989, a debate took place on the possibility of destroying the building but the council of the city kept it. PKiN became the symbol of Warsaw and shelters from now on museums, concert halls and congress, 3 cinemas, 2 theaters and even a restaurant in height with the most beautiful sight of the city.

In 2001, one added to it a clock which is the higher second installed in the world (after that of the Tour NTT DoCoMo Yoyogi of Tōkyō).

The final of Miss World 2006 took place with (PKiN)
