The station
Access to the museum and name
The station was called before Palais Royal , and was re-elected in 1989 Palais Royal - Museum of Louvre because the tourists went down to the Louvre-Rivoli (in the past Louvre) to go to the museum.Since the restoration of the Museum of Louvre, each quay of line 1 is connected to an underground commercial arcade, the Carousel of Louvre, giving access the underground hall Musée of Louvre.
The kiosk of the Night birds
This new mouth of subway, located place Colette, is built in 2000 for the centenary of the subway of Paris; realized under the direction of the artist Jean-Michel Othoniel in a discussed style, it is inaugurated in October 2000. This contemporary work of art caused as many comments as the achievements of Hector Guimard in their time.
Do the two cupolas of the kiosk of the Night birds (one representing the day, the other the night), made glass shots of murano (by Salviati) coloured and threaded on a structure of aluminum, make an unexpected and original work of it (open art, rattle of child or dream baroque?) within the very traditional environment of the place Colette.
