Painting of kind

One calls painting of kind or scene of kind a pictorial type of work which appears of the scenes contemporary and taken on the sharp one. Brief history of the painting of kind

Before the Rebirth

Other compositions of Van Eyck, lost today, as a Dame with its toilet confirm this interpretation. It is interesting to note besides that it is in Flandres that really this practice begins, since in fact especially the schools of North will put then this kind at the honor.

Rebirth

With the progressive withdrawal of the religion of arts, the scene of kind starts to develop with the rebirth, in particular in Flandres. the Weighing one of gold and his wife of Quentin Matsys in is a perfect example, even if like most of the time, it must be read in manner symbolic system. Jerome Bosch and Bruegel the Old one will not hesitate to exploit the scenes of kind, to illustrate proverbs and stories (often lost today) which give a “laic” nuance to religious work.

In Italy as in France, this topic is much less better perceived, in spite of frequent women with the bath in the school of Fontainebleau, but who are generally attached to mythological painting or the painting of history, more than with the scene of kind itself.

At the 19th century the expression painting of kind replaces by abbreviation the expressions vulgar painting of kind , of low kind , of minor kind which indicated works representing of the scenes of the daily life or close friend, in opposition to the paintings of historical kind . Scenes drawn from the Bible could be taken for scenes of kind by ignorance of the subject. One called bambochades paintings of vulgar kind showing of the peasants or the scenes of inn.
