Paint.NET
The Free software Paint.NET is a development project begun with the university from the state of Washington (WSU) and supported by Microsoft. It is a graphic editor free, intended for the operating systems Windows XP and Windows 2000, whose source code is distributed freely. The software is written in C# and is covered by the License MIT, a license Open source . Paint.NET is regarded as the successor semi-official program of drawing Microsoft Paint which is sold with Windows.
It requires the environment .NET of Microsoft, which is provided with certain versions of the Paint.NET fitter and who can also be downloaded separately.
The native format of image used by this software is the format .PDN which preserves the various layers of drawing as well as other information.
Historique
The starting point of the Paint.NET software is a project in data processing during the primptemps 2004 at the university of the state of Washington. Rick Brewster, one of the principal participants, affirms that version 1.0 was written in 15 weeks and made 36.000 lines of code. The last version (currently version 2.72) roughly made 105.000 lines of code. The Paint.NET project continued during the summer and the autumn 2004 for versions 1.1 and 2.0.The current development continuous with two developers working for Microsoft, the latter having already collaborated on versions of the project whereas they were students at the university of origin of the project. In May 2006 the program had been downloaded 2 million times, ata rate of approximately 180.000 remote loadings per month.

Port under Mono
Miguel de Icaza partially carried Paint.NET under the infrastructure Mono, an implementation Open Source of the infrastructure .NET. It succeeded in making function a modified version of Paint.NET version 2.1 pennies Linux. In the long term, and in spite of the fact that this version is only under development, the little of required efforts to this conversion compared with the number of functionalities obtained makes think of Miguel de Icaza who a complete port is a realizable objective.
Paint.NET portable version
Framasoft launched a project of applications which can be put without installation on Clé USB and of this fact usable starting from the key on any computer (Framakey). Paint.NET belongs to the list of the applications under the name of PortablePaint.NET.to see comments
