Paimbœuf

Paimboeuf (origin Breton PEN bo in and Pembo in Gallo) is a common French, located in the department of the Loire-Atlantique and the administrative area of the Pays of the Loire. It belongs to the historical Brittany lies.

The common belongs to the historical Brittany, in the traditional country of the Pays of Retz and in the historical country of the Nantes Pays.

The inhabitants of the commune name the Paimblotins and Paimblotines .

Geography

Paimbœuf is located in the Bocage Pays of Retz at the edge of the the Loire on the Armorican Massif. In surface, the commune is the smaller second of the Loire-Atlantique, a commune which is entirely urbanized.

The commune is bordering with those on Corsept, Saint-Father-in-Retz and Saint-Viaud.

History

The name of Paimbœuf would be originating in the Breton Langue, PEN the head and Bo meaning ox.

During the Moyen-âge Paimbœuf was a village small island of the the Loire populated by Pêcheur S. During the 17th century, Paimbœuf becomes before port of Nantes, the largest boats not being able to borrow the Loire to the City of the Dukes. The village grows thanks to the triangular Commerce (“ebony Wood”) and becomes little by little a town of Ouvrier S and of marine S. Paimbœuf was one of the four city principal of the Loire-Inférieure at the 19th century. The creation of Saint-Nazaire rang the knell of the flourishing saving in Paimbœuf which gradually will lose its role with the profit of Saint-Nazaire.

The city lost in 1926 its statute of chief town of district, to depend on Saint-Nazaire.
