Paheli

Paheli ( the enigma ) is an Indian film carried out by Amol Palekar, left in 2005, with in the main roles Shahrukh Khan, Rani Mukerji and Anupam Kher. A history of phantom illustrates the dilemma with which an young man is confronted when it must choose between remaining near the woman whom it loves and leaving to far making fortune.

Synopsis

Lachchi and Kishan have just married and travel towards the family home of Kishan. In way, they stop in a strange village of the the Rajasthan where a community of phantoms observe them discreetly. One of them, allured by the beauty of Lachchi, falls passionately amoureux.
Le marriage is held as envisaged, but during the wedding night, Kishan reveals in Lachchi its intention to yield with the will of his/her father and to leave to far during five years, to make fortune. Kishan leaves, insensitive with the distress of Lachchi which dreamed of another once married life. After having learned that, the phantom, always enthusiast of Lachchi, takes the features of Kishan and is made accept by the forsaken young woman. It reveals its true identity to him, while taking care to dissimulate it with the family of Kishan.
Quelques years later, Kishan truth reappears. Vis-a-vis two perfectly identical beings, the own family of Kishan is unable to uncover the usurper. She turns then to an old mystical shepherd who claims to be able to solve this enigma.

Around film

Paheli is a film adaptation of the account Duvidha (the dilemma) of Vijaydan Detha, inspired by a tale of the Rajasthan. A first version entitled Duvidha was carried out in 1973 by Mani Kaul.
This film was proposed to be nominated with the Oscars 2006 in the category Meilleur foreign film , but was not finally retained.
