Pagny-the-White-coast

Pagny-the-White-Coast is a common French, located in the department of the Meuse and the area Lorraine.

Its inhabitants is called the Blancôtois .

Geography

A coast, forming a kind of arc of a circle, overhangs the village. The calcareous ground of the area explains the white color of the falls present on the coast. These elements are surely at the origin of the name of the village.

Pagny is served by two secondary roads:

D32 joined D964 to approximately 3 km in the south-west of the village. This secondary road joined by the south Domrémy-the-Virgin like Neufchâteau

History

Origin

It would seem that the village is mentioned for the first time at the 7th century under the name of Paterniacum, a hamlet Gallic. It will become Panei thereafter, then Pagny-on-Meuse and finally Pagny-the-White-Coast with the Révolution. In Patois, that gives Loincloth-the-Bianche-Costs , and the inhabitants, Blancôtois, are called the Sachots of poîes (Sachets of lice or Bags of chips).

Employers' festival

The Saint-Gregoire , of the name of the Parish, is the employers' festival. She is celebrated the March 12th, but because it work that the inhabitants in the farms of the village must provide, the fairs and other festivities are rather organized in autumn, and particularly in September a few weeks after the harvest S. Aujourd'hui, the Saint-Gregoire is not celebrated any more. Small a Fun fair remains all the same each year first Sunday of May.

History and inheritance

A Water mill is built in 1550, but it is destroyed towards 1960.
