Page of results of an search engine
See also: Serp
The page of results of an search engine , also known under the Acronyme Serp (for the English “ Search Engine results page”), is a Web page that a Search engine generates automatically according to Mots-clés seized by a Internaute, and who consists of a whole of bonds pointing towards the resources which he considers, among all those which he indexes, like relevant for this request taking into consideration its system of intrinsic classification.
Contents
The results are generally presented in the form of a Liste, classified by decreasing order of relevance. One finds however presentations exotic, following the example that proposed by the Métamoteur KartOO, which arranges the results according to graphs representing the relations which link them.
For each result
Each result can be accompanied by elements such as:
- the title and/or URL of the resource;
- the row and/or the Percentage of relevance of the resource, according to the established ranking by the search engine;
- a summary or a short description of the resource;
- a Seen in image (Capture of screen) of the resource;
- the extract of the resource containing the seized key words, with a formatting emphasizing them (for example in fatty);
- size of the resource, in Byte S;
- the type of resource, in the case of documents which are not Web pages (pdf, rtf, DOC., TXT, etc); these formats requiring a Software external with the navigator to be visualized, a bond towards a conversion into Web page can be proposed;
- of the bonds towards:
- a Automatic translation of the resource,
- a version hides of it resource (if it would be inaccessible), with possibly the key words of the request highlighted (in Surbrillance for example);
- the Date to which the resource was indexed and put out of mask.
Other contained informations in page of results
The page can also contain:
- a Field of seizure allowing to subject a new request;
- of the advertizing bonds , in zones in theory clearly identified: the free search engines being generally , these publicities allow the Entreprise S which publish them to carry out Bénéfice S (for example AdWords on Google);
- of the suggestions of different requests:
- with a combination of key words which could be more effective;
- with the correct Orthographe, if a fault were detected in the request intiale;
- on a more restricted Corpus (limited for example to a Langue, a particular type of resource), or, if the request were initially limited, on a different corpus or more general.
The results are generally too numerous to be all posted on only one page, so that they are distributed on a certain number of successive pages. The full number of pages and/or results is generally posted, with bonds to sail between these various pages.
There exist search engines which are able to recognize certain types of requests, and to post a result consequently. For example:
- a chart of the place corresponding to a toponym or in the name of an establishment,
- the result of a mathematical calculation,
- a conversion of units,
- a Definition,
- of the comparisons of price for a produced, etc
Setting out of mask
With an aim of improving their response times, certain search engines put out of mask the pages of results corresponding to the most frequent requests, and post these versions hides some rather than an on line generated page. These pages of results are regularly updated, in order to take into account the new resources, and if required to readjust the classification of the various resources.
The update of the pages of results out of mask can however take several Jour S or Semaine S, which can result in inappropriate results because obsolete.
