- In 1914-1918, the city is enough far from the face to be saved but the populations suffer from the war and preserve some visible after-effects on the war memorial. Remain still the deposits of immersed ammunition. During the second world war, the Germans like the Allies save the high city (citadel, ramparts, castle, cathedral, Saint Nicolas's Day church) and the middle-class houses of the old shore. But in 1943 and 1944, the popular quarters close to the port (in particular the Saint-Pierre district) are almost entirely shaved by the bombardments, which explains the typical architecture of after war which characterizes them today.
- With the demolition of the blast furnaces built under the presidency of the general De Gaulle, the after-effects of official industrial development without any ecological concern tend to grow blurred. With missing thus a great part of atmospheric pollution with that of one of the largest littoral factories of France, the mining Company of Ogoué or COMILOG (ferromanganese ex-company of Paris Outreau or SFPO), which produced ferromanganese. The port and its beach a long time were classified as among more polluted of France. In the long term, Boulogne should find the level of " good state écologique" what envisages the European parent directive on water.
- Four white wind mills from now on are established in front of the artificial peninsula and the island where the blast furnaces of Comilog were shaven. The project of establishment of new treatment plants of the fishing resources on the site not having met general adhesion, of the tourist areas are also envisaged there.

songs of the guenels:
O guénel by a p' tit trew, I see you there Ben all the deuw, Maquer of el tart and the gâtiauw, Without me in giving a p' tit morciauw!
Refrain: O guénel, guénel, tou petou petiou, Wash your bowls and liquez your dishes! If vô girls is beautiful, they will be married If they are pon beautiful, they there will be left! And it will tra.
Tit Jesus not' ruffle by there! He will say that O that you make there? I picking of the violets For my p' tites young girls I play of the violin, for the p `tits boys!
Refrain
O guénel, large' father Barbel It has one came' COM' a barrel It maqué too many beans Of el tart' and pi' of the gatiauws!
origins of the guénels:
The tradition boulonnaise of the guénels would be drawn from the local legend of " Small Pierre" , this little boy, resulting from a very poor family which did not want to pass Christmas without food and which thus defied the dangers of the black night to go to beg with the castle for the lord. He would have crossed the night provided with a lantern cut in a beet.
It is in homage to this legend that according to the tradition, the children bolted cut a lantern in a beet to go to beg for the sugar refineries by singing the song of the guénels.
