Padre Pio

Francesco Forgione , born the May 25th 1887 with Pietrelcina (Italy), dead the September 23rd 1968), more known under the name of Padre Pio , capuchin and Italian priest. He takes the name of Pio when he joined the order of the minor brothers capuchins. He was canonized by the Roman Catholic church in 2002.

Biography

Born from Orazio Forgione, farmer, and of Giuseppa Da Nunzio, he is baptized the following day with the church Santa Maria degli Angeli (Holy-Marie-of-Angels) of Pietrelcina, where he carries out a pious youth, during which he tries out mystical visions; as of five years, Jesus-Christ appears to him. At fifteen years, it has its first extases. It joined the Ordre of the minor brothers capuchins the January 22nd 1903 with Morcone. Because of its fragile health, it turns over in its family, then is sent in various Couvent S.

It is ordered priest with the cathedral of Bénévent the August 10th 1910. Appointed priest with Santa Maria degli Angeli of Pietrelcina, it is starting from the September 4th 1916, with the convent of San Giovanni Rotondo. During the First World War, it is useful in the Italian medical community (1917 - 1918).

Dice 1911, it has announced to its confessor, the appearance for one year, of red signs and pains sharp to the hands and the feet.

The August 5th 1918, it receives the Transverbération (spiritual piercing through of the heart with bleeding) and the September 20th 1918, it receives the Stigmates (wounds of Christ sanguinolentes to the hands, the feet and the thorax), which it seeks to hide with Mitaine S It thus joins together the gifts of holy Therese d' Avila and of saint François d' Assise. Padre Pio:

I live in front of me a mysterious character whose hands, the feet, the chest, streamed of blood. I felt my heart wounded by a dart of fire… This character disappeared at my sight and I realized that my hands, my feet, my chest were bored and streamed of blood!

As of 1919, the the Holy Office deals with sound case and mande Dr. L. Romanelli, of the hospital of Barletta, which examines it several times in 1919 and 1920:

the wound of the thorax shows clearly that it is not surface. The hands and the feet are transpierced right through.

I cannot find a formulation clinical which authorizes me to classify these wounds. In 1919, an atheistic doctor, Pr Bignami, fact posed of the seals on bindings, to dismiss the assumption of the voluntary use of acid on the wounds.

In 1920 and 1925, Dr. Festa re-examines Padre and concludes with:

… of the phenomena, connected harmoniously between them, which withdraw from control objective research and science.

From 1924 with 1928, three visitors apostolic will come to inquire near him. Doctor S and Psychiatre S examine it, but he is declared healthy and sincere.

He consequently is very criticized not because of his state, but because of the overflow of the faithful ones; he is also called into question by his hierarchy which sees in its popularity a threat and a drift, and one obliges it on May 23rd 1931 to cease all public activities, by celebrating the Messe in the interior vault then in his cell, which did not prevent it from showing supernatural phenomena, in particular by strange Fragrance S projected remotely, in addition to the Odeur of holiness which usually accompanied it.

With humility, it will divide the Passion Christ, in order to relieve by its sacrifice, the hearts in perdition. Padre Pio:

Fifty years of religious life, fifty years nailed with the cross, fifty years of fire devouring for you, Lord, for the beings which you repurchased.

During all its life it would have undergone almost daily the physical attacks and morals of “Satan” of which “cossacks”. , as it named them, would have come nuitamment to strike it, doing as well noise in the monastery as certain monks, terrified, would have asked for their change.

One can regard Padre Pio as one of the great saints Thaumaturge S of the XXe century, having achieved a multitude of miracles of instantaneous cure in the presence of many witnesses. One also lends to him the gift of Bilocation (simultaneous appearance in two places). , in addition to particular phenomena the such Hyperthermia (very high temperature of the body, beyond 48°) or the Inédie (abstention prolonged from food or drink beyond two months). The Levitation, although attested by the rumor, receives only the only testimony of Padre itself.

The July 14th 1933 the the Holy Office again authorizes it to celebrate masses and to hear Confession S.

The January 9th 1940, it outlines the plans for a Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza “House to relieve the suffering”. The Dispensaire opens into 1 954, but the official unveiling takes place only the May 5th 1956.
At the same time, Padre Pio founds Groupes of prayer in order to cure and relieve the hearts.

As of 1947, measures are again taken with San Giovanni Rotondo following the visit of the general father about the Capuchins, who notes a certain liturgical disorder because of excessive piety of certain faithful.

The July 30th 1960 a new apostolic visitor comes to note the disorders and following its visit, the the Holy Office undertakes to limit public appearances of Padre Pio which acquired the fame as a workman of Miracle S, working up to 19 hours per day within its church. One estimates at twenty million, the faithful ones having attended with his mass, and five million, those which were confessed there. One indeed lends to him miraculous cures (of which it always humbly allots the share to Jesus or Marie) of paralyzes, tuberculoses, fractures, broncho-pneumonias, meningitides, blindness and other cancers, etc Moreover, it operated many conversions among the most refractory people with the Church, of a simple glance or a fine words.

It is only with the request express of the pope Paul VI, that it is again fully authorized to carry out its office without restriction, starting from the January 30th 1964.

The July 7th 1968, Padre Pio is victim of an attack. The September 22nd 1968, it celebrates the solemn mass of the fiftieth anniversary of its marks. The evening even it receives the Extrême oiling and dies out a few hours later, early the morning of the September 23rd 1968.

The body of Padre Pio did not comprise any trace of marks or scars during the examination post-mortem. What east can be interpreted like an ultimate miracle.

At the time of the funeral, whereas its corpse rested already in the crypt, the crowd of enthusiasts brought together with the outside sang particularly liked canticles of Padre Pio. Suddenly, exclamations of joy were heard: Padre Pio appeared, smiling, the face turned towards the left, on the pane of what had been its cell! One saw his frieze clearly, to the belly, and the cordelière, such as I had seen them. With the cries of Miraculo of crowd, the father guard of the convent dispatched a monk on the spot. And this last returned with incredible information: Padre appeared on the pane. Then, to give a good lesson of realism to all those which it could regard as exaltés, fanatics, it gave the order to open the window of the cell of Padre and tightening a white cloth. Eh well! after a `Ah' of disappointment of crowd, resounded suddenly of the " Oh! Oh! " merry and amused: the " photograph vivante" of Padre appeared at the same time on all the panes of this frontage of the convent of Holy-Marie-of-Graces.

Padre Pio was the subject of two official investigations conduits by the authorities of the the Holy See as of the March 20th 1983, which concluded with their authenticity in 1990, after having gathered 73 testimonys in 104 volumes.

Following the favorable opinion given the June 13rd 1997 by the Congregation for the cause of the saints, Padre Pio is declared happy the May 2nd 1999 and the June 16th 2002, Jean-Paul II the canonizes under the name of sanctus Pius in Pietrelcina while filing proceedings of official recognition of the marks by the Church (only saint François d' Assise and holy Catherine of His profits from it) Its tomb thus became a high place of Pèlerinage.

Anecdotes

the mystic Lucia Fiorentino known as to have received as of 1906 a vision announcing the arrival of Padre Pio in San Giovanni Rotondo.
