Padoux

Padoux is a common French, located in the department of the the Vosges and the area Lorraine.

Its inhabitants is called Padoselliens.

Geography

The commune of Padoux is located between Épinal and Rambervillers, but however formed part of the Canton of Heathers, to 20 km of the chief town. Located on that and dividing line of the basin of the Meurthe of the the Moselle, sprinkled by an affluent of the Mortagne, the Padozel, it is a country of transition where succeed at the same time the cultures of mountain and those of the Lorraine plain. The ground is made of a mixture of Calcaire and Argile and contains very few Silice. It constitutes what one locally calls of the white grounds and of the russet-red grounds ; these last are more particularly favorable to the culture of cereals and especially of corn.

  • the church of Padoux was built about 1880. The Town hall dates from the same time.
  • the fair with the animal of fattening, was started again by Alphonse Vauthier, former mayor of Padoux. This cattle fair which takes place the Easter Monday attracts a crowd of idlers and tradesmen.
  • It would seem that Jean Paul Sartre was made stop by German with Padoux during the second world war.
