Package (software)

In Data-processing, and in particular in the context of the Systems Unix, one calls package (or sometimes parcelling , in English package ) a files (compressed file) including/understanding the electronic files, information and procedures necessary to the installation of a Logiciel on a Operating system within a software aggregate , while making sure of the functional coherence of the system thus modified.

A package is typically made up of:

  • achievable files or source S;
  • files of configuration;
  • files of documentation;
  • software dependences;
  • scripts the pre one/post Installation;
  • scripts the pre one/post desinstallation;

A parcelling can be in the form of source or of binary precompiled.

Most of the time a software package installs a Logiciel, and Paramètre the Operating system to make it usable. The use of software package is a component of a Good practice of software integration.
