Pacification
The pacification is a term of the military vocabulary and Colonial.
After the Conquest of a territory, or the declaration of this conquest, the “rebellions” which call into question the order of the conqueror “endanger peace”, and “require the intervention of the soldiers” to ensure the order of the winner and the Répression of the “rebels”.
Thus the French Army ensured the “pacification” of Madagascar by the Foreign legion, and that the American army tries to arrive at the “pacification” of the Iraq.
The pacification of Algeria consisted in the repression of the independence movements, in particular by the Torture.
