Paceville
Located at the east of San Ġiljan, Paceville is the name given has a district (and not an official commune) containing a very significant number of bars, pubs, restaurants and nightclubs, and considered as the capital of the night life Maltaise. There are at least 32 nightclubs has Paceville. Paceville is located between Spinola Bay and St George' S Bay.
History
Origin
Paceville finds its origins in the years 1920 and 1930 when a lawyer built some residences of seaside have San Julian, with the place known as of " it-Qaliet" , a small bay located between the Dragonara peninsula and Portomaso. Some of these residences, are at present surrounded still upright by hotels and apartments. The houses in the beginning were occupied by British, then between the two wars, the Malteses started has to occupy them. A vault augustinienne, now known under the name of Millenium Chapel, was built has Paceville.
Recent development
After the war, Paceville was a place or were installed farmers, and few restaurants there were found. The Malteses were accustomed to parking their cars in fields, it or now rise luxury hotels. In the years 1960, Paceville started to be transformed into an tourist area, when two famous brands of hotels, Sheraton and Hilton, built two hotels five stars in this zone. The Sheraton Hotel opened in the Dragonara Peninsula, it or was in the beginning the residence of summer of the richest Maltese banker. During the war, the hotel had been transformed into a military hospital. It was transformed into casino.
About at the same time, a big number of bars and nightclubs opened in answer to the big number of tourists and of British living has San Julian, San Andrew and Pembroke. With the passing of years, of many nightclubs, hotels, and bars opened.
