Pacôme de Tabennesis
Pacôme de Tabennesis (born in Thébaïde about the year 292, died towards 348) is generally regarded as one of the founders of the Cénobitisme.
It is high in paganism. At twenty years, he is enlisted of force in the imperial armies. With Thèbes, it is impressed by the charity and the attention of the Christians with regard to those which suffer. For this moment, he has recited the following prayer unceasingly: O God, creator of the sky and the ground! Throw on me a glance of pity; deliver to me my miseries; teach to me the true means of returning to me pleasant in your eyes. All my desire and all my care will be to be useful to you and achieve your holy volonté.
Then it went, in the desert, to put itself at the school of the Palémon old man who served God in the prayer. After having, according to the tradition, receipt of an angel a monastic Rule which enables him to institute the cenobitic life, it founds the monastery of Tabennesis between the large one and small Diospolis (Thébaïde). And around this principal monastery which gathers several hundreds of disciples, it founds six more monasteries.
As holy Antoine is held for the teacher of the monastic life and eremitic, holy Pacôme is the patriarch of the coenobites.
