PSG-OM
The matches PSG-OM or OM-PSG , according to the team which receives, are meetings of Football opposing the Paris Saint-Germain Football Club to the Olympique of Marseilles. Each opposition between the two clubs is called “ Classico ”, on the model of the Spanish Clasíco between the Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. The PSG represents the Capitale, Paris, while the OM represents the city phocéenne, Marseilles. While playing on the stereotypes, it is a match Paris-Province. The special character of these oppositions is largely maintained by the Médias.
These meetings became important at the end of the Années 1980 and were announced especially by incidents which occurred on and around the ground. Some meetings remain however sporting references for the supporters of the two camps. Thus, it is during a match OM-PSG that a goal of last minute signed by Franck Sauzée allots the title of champion of France 1989 to the OM with the detriment of the PSG. Other side, the final of Coupe de France gained in 2006 with the Stade de France by the PSG over the score of 2 goals to 1.
Origin of the competition
It is at the beginning of the Années 1990 that Canal+ starts to promote near the general public confrontations between the two clubs, making these matches of great sporting appointments for all French football. It was established little by little a great tension between the Olympian supporters and Parisian. More and more, the various groups of Marseilles and Parisian supporters hated themselves and insulted themselves.
This great competition between supporters still exists in the Années 2000. To each go between these two clubs, of important security measures are taken to prevent to the maximum of the confrontations between the supporters of the two camps. However, of many incidents occurred at the supporters of the two camps at the time of certain matches. During the season 2000-2001, a young person to support Marseilles is paralyzed with life after having received a seat coming from the Parisian platforms of the Parc of the Princes.
This competition does nothing but worsen when the various presidents of the two clubs clash while launching insults or remarks by the means of the press.
Matches between the PSG and the OM
If one puts side double confrontation OM- Stade Saint-Germain in quarterfinals of the Coupe de France 1969 (victory of the OM to the Parc of the Princes 0-2, then with the Stade cycle-racing track 5-1), the first edition of shock OM-PSG was held in December 1971. The Marseillais asserted 4-2 on this occasion. At the time of the sleeve return, in May 1972 with the Stage of Paris to Saint-Ouen, the OM was essential again 2-1.
In 68 confrontations all competitions confused (at September 2nd, 2007), the assessment is of:
- 26 victories for the OM,
- 24 victories for the PSG,
- 18 ties;
- 85 goals for the OM,
- 83 goals for the PSG;
- the PSG was essential 7 times at the Vélodrome stage,
- the OM gained 8 times on the ground of the PSG (7 times at the Park of the Princes and 1 time at Saint-Ouen).
