PMB (software)
PMB is a Management operating system of library. It is about a Free software under License CeCILL, developed by company PMB Services. PMB is a full-Web application, resting on a platform Apache + + MySQL, and can thus function under Linux, Mac OS X or Microsoft Windows.
According to the annual inquiry of Books Hebdo, PMB is classified third SIGB in France in 2005 by the number of installations with 165 installations carried out. Company PMB Services as for it asserts more than 150 customers to its offers of maintenance, lodging, etc…
In its first versions beta, PMB, developed by François Lemarchand of October 2002 in November 2003 (directing of the public library of Lambs), was called PhpMyBibli. It is in December 2003 at the time of its presentation to an International Conference with Rabat which version 1.0 saw the day. The developers most implied on this date (Eric Robert, Gautier Michelin, Florent Tétart) then created PMB Services for professionaliser the tool and to propose the services necessary to the small libraries or interested large companies.
The first library equipped was Bueil-in-Touraine, there is at January 1st, 2007 more than 3000 operational installations in the world, of the funds going of 300 documents with 300.000 notes. One will also note that large companies like Alstom or Orange turn to free solutions like PMB, in particular because this SIGB offers functionalities equivalent or higher than the owners offers at less important costs between 2 and 20 times.
To the border of the SIGB and documentary gates, PMB offers innovating functionalities and in particular very directed Web 2.0. It multilingual and is in particular arabisé since its version 3.0.5 of November 2006.
