PKCS
The PKCS ( P ublic K ey C ryptographic S tandards), or standard of cryptography to public key , are a whole of specifications conceived by laboratories RSA in California. The company RSA Security is specialized in the cryptographic security solutions. It is also owner of user licenses of several algorithms (of which RSA before the expiry of sound Brevet the September 21st 2000). It is for these reasons that the company developed and promoted the PKCS, allowing the establishment of the techniques of Cryptographie public key.
Company RSA Security is not a Organisme of standardization and completely controls the development and the evolution of the PKCS. The name of the standard PKCS as in a strict sense is thus abusive. Meeting a real technical need, the PKCS nevertheless were very largely adopted by the data-processing medium. The work group PKIX of IETF since reformulated some of the PKCS in RFC, the standards Internet. The abuse language confusing the PKCS instead of the RFC corresponding is very widespread.
