PC-BSD

PC-BSD is a distribution based on FreeBSD , a famous Operating system for its robustness but to the not very accessible installation for the beginners and the users coming from other systems, such as Microsoft Windows or Mac OS .

PC-BSD is not a modified version ( Fork ) of FreeBSD. It is presented rather in the form of an additional layer, making it possible to install easily an environment Bureautique ready with employment. It is available only on x86.

The installation is done in graphic mode, proposing the environment KDE by defect. PC-BSD has its own system of parcellings, the PBI. The installation and the desinstallation of PC-BSD Installer are made very easy by the integration of the libraries on which the software depends and by the manager of programs installed. Nevertheless it is always possible to install the software with the manner of FreeBSD.

The system is now fully functional and the current stable version is the 1.4, exit the September 24th 2007, it is founded on FreeBSD 6.2.

  • 1.4 : September 24th, 2007 - Passage on FreeBSD 6.2. Then KDE 3.5.7, Xorg 7.2 and new components

  • 1.2 Icy Steel : July 12th, 2006 - KDE 3.5.3, always FreeBSD 6.1 and Correction of bugs
  • 1.11a : June 25th, 2006 - Correction of bugs
  • 1.11 : June 13rd, 2006 - Addition of functions
  • 1.1 : May 28th, 2006 - Passage to FreeBSD 6.1, correction of bugs, addition of pilots
  • 1.0 : April 29th, 2006 - Final version, based on FreeBSD 6.0 with KDE 3.5.2
  • 1.0RC2 : January 20th, 2006
  • 1.0RC1 : November 11th, 2005 - Release Candidate 1 available. Based on FreeBSD 6.0
  • 0.8.3 : October 22nd, 2005 - Addition of a autorun for CD and Correction of bugs

PC-BSD is a free operating system, it is published under license BSD since version 0.7.5. The previous versions are published under license GNU LPG.
