Périoste

The périoste is the coating of the long Os and the flat bones which ensures the growth of it (in thickness). Composed of a fibrous external layer, a fibroelastic transition course and a osteoblastic internal layer (cellular), it is a fabric which allows in particular the insertion of the tendon S and Ligament S on the bone. Periostic primary ossification develops starting from the périoste, with the periphery of the diaphyse of the long bones, is ossification of a endoconjonctive type (which includes/understands also the primary ossification of the membrane).

The Ostéoblaste S under-périostés are active until the end of the growth.

Their hyperactivity involves a Hyperostose.

It will be noted that the périoste recovers the bone except for articular surfaces.
