Périgordien

Périgordien is a term created in 1933 by Denis Peyrony to indicate the prehistoric industries with abrupt final improvement of the Paléolithique superior, which would have developed the Aurignacien parallel to. The idea of two parallel phyla was abandoned but one speaks still sometimes about “old Périgordien” to indicate the Châtelperronien and about “recent Périgordien” for the Gravettien.
