Péricaryon

The péricaryon , or summoned or cellular body, is the central part of a Neuron. The word means besides in Greek " around the core ". Since the emergent péricaryon other morphological structures characteristic of the neurons: the dendrite S and the Axon.

The péricaryon can have, according to the type of nervous cell, various forms, which often gave their name to the categories of neurons. It is in particular the case for the pyramidal cells whose péricaryon has a typical triangular form.

The péricaryon is the place of the vital functions of the neuron. The genetic Expression takes place there since the core is there, but also most of the translation (production of protein). The péricaryon is also very important to ensure the energy production in the form of ATP, because there is not sufficient mitochondries in the axons, dendrites or the synaptic terminations for the energy needs as of these structures when they discharge from the potential of action. The péricaryon is the trophic area of the cell, that which synthéthise elements necessary to the cellular renewal.
