Pérenchies is a common French, located in the department of the Northern and the area Nord-Pas-de-Calais.

History

Pérenchies has more than 7000 inhabitants called Pérenchinois (E) S. Of an agricultural village, it became, at last century, a textile industrial city. Located at the west of the metropolis inhabitant of Lille, Pérenchies develops her artisanal zones.

For some, it has a Celtic origin. For others, the name derives from a Latin word. The oldest document writes date of 1101. It is a parchment.

To the Middle Ages, the grounds belong to a seigniory vicomtière. The lords of Pérenchies have grounds and a keep there on mound.

Several times, during the centuries, the village is destroyed.

At the 16th century, the reformed religion seems to have held a school there.

In 1667, Pérenchies and the area become French. In 1789, the village counts 500 inhabitants. The first municipality is created. The church is sold; it is the French revolution.

In 1800, Pérenchies is a rural borough composed of 151 houses. One cultivates vegetables and tobacco there. Two mills there are found.

In 1838, a spinning mill of flax is built by Mr. Blan; it uses the vapor. In 1848, it is repurchased by the Agache family which will develop it and to give him a national importance. At that time, the railroad settles in the commune.

In 1900, the population reaches more than 3.200 people. All the life of the city revolves around the factory. Between 1914 and 1918, a cruel war falls down on our city. It will be almost entirely destroyed because it is used as a basis of fold for the German troops.

The city receives the military decoration for its courage. This one will be reproduced from now on on its armorial bearings which are the weapons of the former lords. The city will reappear of its ashes.

In 1946, a catholic martyrdom is set up in thanks to be saved during the Second world war.

During the 20th century, various foreign populations (Belgian, Polish, Italian, Portuguese), come to be installed on our commune in the search of an employment or better living conditions.

In 1973, Overath (Germany) and Pérenchies bind friendship by a twinning.

In 1985, the Agache factory closes its doors and leaves Pérenchies.
