Pérégrin Laziosi

Holy Pérégrin Laziosi , or Pellegrino Laziosi, born with Forlì in Italy about 1265. He is patron saint of the patients incurable, requested today by the cancerous and the sidéens.

Life

In its youth, it militated at the Gibelins (according to the tradition, it was the case in many families with Forli), which led it to be opposed to the brother Philippe Benizi, then Prieur general about the Servites of Marie (the legend wants that Pellegrino gave him a slap), then it converts and, around thirty years, entered even this order, of which it is now one of the most venerated most famous saints and.

Around 60 years, he miraculeusement was miraculeusement cured gangrene with the right leg, the day before day when he was going to be amputee. This night there, operation day before, Pérégrin trails itself in front of the crucifix of the chapter room to request there. Being deadened of lassitude, he sees the Jesus Lord going down from the cross and curing the leg to him. The morning, the doctor who comes to carry out the amputation, finds any more trace neither of wound nor of scar. Amazed, it spreads in all the city the news of this miraculous cure, which still increases the veneration of which one surrounded the brother. Reason for which everywhere today it is known in the world like the guard of the patients of cancer.

He died in the Convent of Forli, on May 1st 1345. Its body rests in the basilica which bears its name in Forli.

Beatification - canonization - festival

  • In 1609, it is béatifié by the pope Paul V

  • on December 27th 1726, it is canonized by the Dominican pope Benoît XIII.
  • It is celebrated, in the Ordre of Servites of Marie and in the universal Calendar of the Catholic church the May 4th .
  • He is the owner of the town of Forlì, where still today each May 1st takes place a festival in its honor, characterized by the sale of lemons.
