The Pérée was a district located at the east of the the Jordan. It corresponded roughly to Gilead of the Old Testament. It is the district described in the New Testament as being beyond the Jordan (cf MT 19,1). It was an area of plates, where precipitations were sufficient to allow the fruit growth and the cereal culture. At the time of Jesus, this district was managed by Hérode Antipas. The Juifs granted the same statute as with the Judaea and the Galileo to him.
