Péithias

Péithias was the chief of the popular party with Corcyre during the Peloponnesian War.

It was the proxene of Athens in its city. He was shown by holding of the aristocratic party sacrificing the independence of the island to the Athenian power. Judged, he was discharged. He counter-attacked then and quoted his adversaries in justice. He showed them to have cut wood on grounds devoted to Zeus. The fine was so enormous that condemned asked a spread of the payments. Péithias required the immediate payment. It then was attacked and killed in the room even of the Council.
