Pègue is a common French, located in the department of the Drome and the area the Rhone-Alps.
Geography
Pègue is built with the foot of the Lance, mountain having 1340 meters of rise, not far from the road of Montélimar with Nyons.
History
This modest village replaced the old Gallo-Roman city of Alétanum, which had been the capital of the Gallic tribe of Aletani and was destroyed during the great cruel invasions. Monks settled in its ruins and built there a monastery which burned Sarrazins in VIIIe century. The Gallo-Roman oppidum which crowned the hill of Saint-Marcel and that replaced later a strong castle, appears to have been the fortress of the disappeared city.
